JOB TITLE: Circulating Surgical Assistant DATE: REPORTS TO: Clinical Supervisor/Office Manager/Office Doctor FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt JOB SUMMARY: As a circulating surgical assistant, you will work closely with various OMA doctors to perform a variety of different oral surgery procedures at each location as needed. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the practice. • Adheres to OMA policies, procedures, including those set out in the employee manual, in performing job duties and responsibilities. • Communicates effectively, respectfully, and courteously with patients, visitors, doctors, and co-workers. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for performing the following: • Answering patient questions before and after appointments • Preparing patients for oral surgery procedures by making them comfortable and providing any instructions • Sterilizing dental instruments and equipment, and placing for easy access • Preparing the operatory and exam room for use by the OMA doctor by making sure it is stocked, organized and clean. • Assisting the OMA doctor during procedures, including passing instruments, getting supplies, and using the suction tube to keep the patient’s mouth dry. • Monitoring oxygen, vitals and IV fluids during oral surgery procedures • Assisting with dental x-rays and dental impressions • Assisting with dental lab work and checking in lab cases • Recovering patients and instructing patient’s driver for post-operative care • Making post-operative calls to patients 24 hours after surgery • Scheduling follow-ups and surgical appointments • Keeping patient records • Drawing up drugs while checking expiration and date and performing daily drug count • Printing daily PMP reports for all scheduled surgery patients. • Reviewing treatment with OMA doctor and entering treatment plans • Reviewing surgical charts for consents, accuracy of treatment plan and patient health history and allergies • Presenting prescription requests to doctor and calling in prescriptions as needed. • Obtain and maintain all certifications (IV Therapy, CPR and First Aid, X-Ray, Nitrous Oxide and DAANCE) Performs other duties as requested by Clinical Team Leader, Office Manager and/or Doctor Manager. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • This position requires high-level visual and auditory acuity for participating in and monitoring patient care activities. • This position requires the ability to move frequently throughout the clinic; sit or stand for long periods of time; occasional overhead and low reaching; ability to exert force of up to 30 lbs. occasionally, up to 10 lbs. frequently and up to 5 lbs. constantly. • Patient care activities may require the ability to exert force of up to 30 lbs. constantly, 40 lbs. occasionally, and up to 100 lbs. rarely. WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment. Exposure to blood borne and airborne pathogens; frequent exposure to chemical hazards; may encounter radiation hazards. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the practice. • Adheres to OMA policies, procedures, including those set out in the employee manual, in performing job duties and responsibilities. • Communicates effectively, respectfully and courteously with patients, visitors, doctors, and co-workers. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the overall daily operation of the OMA Clinic administrative and clinical functions. Supervises Clinical Administrative Staff responsible for performing the following: • Patient appointment check-in and check-out. • Collection of patient payments. • Patient appointment scheduling. • Verifies patient insurance coverage and determines patient out of pocket expense. • Posts all charges, payments, and adjustments to the patient’s account. Correct posting errors as needed. • Medical Records maintenance. • Coordinates patient insurance information with Billing and Accounting Director/Billing Staff. Works with the designated Clinical Team Supervisor for the OMA Office in the discharge of clinical duties and patient care. Helps develop and implement an Annual OMA Office Marketing Plan in conjunction with OMA Marketing Coordinator and Senior Management Handles and resolves patient disagreements and disputes. Has authority to discipline and terminate employees in coordination with Senior Manager/Office Doctor Manager. Prepares and completes performance evaluations for OMA Office Coordinates or delegates the scheduling of hospital cases, outside services (i.e. imaging, MRI, CT), IHS, VA, DOC, workers comp or any other non-standard referred patients. Assists with preparing credentialing paperwork. Reviews, corrects and approves daily collection/payment reports. Prepares daily, weekly, monthly reports as required. Approves subordinate time off requests and time sheets. Works with OMA Doctor Manager and Senior Manager concerning budgetary guidelines and KPI Attends monthly leadership meetings Performs other duties as assigned by Practice Executive or Doctor Manager. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This is sedentary work that requires the following physical activities: • Sitting or standing for long periods, walking, finger dexterity, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. • Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. of computer equipment or supplies.
