Silver Diamine Fluoride Symposium: Silver Diamine Fluoride in the Medical Management of Caries
Texas A&M College of Dentistry
Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (CST)
Suddenly we find ourselves in a new paradigm of dentistry: medical management of caries. Non-invasive approaches have resurged around Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF). In this session, we will cover the evidence, mechanisms, and clinical use of SDF. Areas of focus include: history of development, evidence from clinical trials and mechanistic studies, global deployment, and integration with other caries management techniques (such as ART and Hall), incorporation into restorative practice, and clinical protocols. Clinicians need to be prepared to approach the black stain and the 11-32% of carious lesions that will keep growing. Lessons from recent adoption in medical management of caries can guide clinicians to dramatically reduce the burden of caries in any population.
