Job Description Title: Dental Hygienist for our Waxhaw Office Location Reports to: Office Manager Department: Back Office Hygiene Department Objective: Responsible for providing hygiene treatment to patients. Responsible for ensuring that the hygiene schedule is completed in a manner that is productive and with top notch customer service. Responsible for overlooking hygiene team members to ensure that the work day is stress free and the schedule is accommodated to meet patient expectations. Essential Job Functions: Patient Orientation: Communicate clearly and professionally with patients from different social and economic levels.Develop strong rapport with patients both via telephone and face-to-face.Diffuse patient complaints and concerns over the telephone and in person quickly maintaining positive and professional attitude.Identify negative statements from patients and reinforce positive patient relations through active professional communication Professionalism: Set tone and personality for entire office team via positive, professional and upbeat communications.Present a professional appearance/image through dress, language and actions in all instances maintaining self control with patients and fellow employees. Team Orientation: Communicate clearly with all clinical and non-clinical team members Follow all directions from dentist(s) and office manager. Avoid personal conflict between team members. Identify charting, patient flow and scheduling errors, working with all clinical staff as a team to reduce error occurrence GENERAL DUTIES Greet patients and provide patient tours for new patients. Review daily schedule of hygiene patients.Carefully review patient health and dental history and update as necessary.Perform thorough and gentle prophylaxis to patients. Perform scaling, root planing and coronal polishing for patients.Accurately chart patients periodontal health as needed per dentist recommendations.Provide radiographs for patients as prescribed by dentist.Apply cavity-preventative agents such as fluorides and sealants.Communicate with patients in an understandable and professional way.Check on patient comfort during treatment; help allay patient anxiety.Take accurate notes on the provided treatment Teach proper oral hygiene techniques to patients.Consult patients on proper nutrition and oral health.Ensure that all consents are signed for treatment Schedule six month re-care appointments.Lead Doctors to next scheduled patient to ensure less wait time.Implementing a set schedule for operative team members Train all new team members on charting.Complete all charts that are incomplete at the end of the day. Also provide team member with an orientation on how to properly complete chart.Answer any questions that the doctors, front desk or back staff have about charting.Creating and enforcing a fair set schedule for team members to be relieved of their duties when the schedule permits. Assist the doctor with extra curriculum activities such as phone calls, referrals, etc… to ensure the doctor can concentrate on patient care. Review the schedule to determine when treatment can be added to schedule. Keep doctors informed when there is availability on the schedule to complete treatment.Communicate with the Lead Assistant to determine if the schedule allows for treatment to be scheduled from hygiene to operative on the same day. Communicate with the front desk to determine if the schedule allows for late patients and walk-ins to be seen. Assist with the front desk with parents with questions and problems. Communicate with the office manager if any miscommunications arise with parents, doctors or team members.Follow up any questions with insurance with insurance department or front desk Prepare morning huddle as needed.Communicate with Lead Assistant and Doctor when schedule allows to complete treatment on Complete exams, Limited exams and Emergencies during appointment day. Operative Area and Sterilization Assist with beginning-of-the-day and end-of-the-day procedures for hygiene area; turning on/off equipment, disinfecting stations IAW OSHA Regulations Check to ensure hygiene area is ready, stocked and clean by hygiene team Follow up with the assistant who is ordering on any materials needed Ensure proper handling of dirty instruments; properly discard all disposable items.Assist in sterilization area as needed Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must be licensed to practice in state and meet other applicable state requirements. Must have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary education from an accredited dental hygiene.Experience providing prophylaxis and taking x- rays.Thorough working knowledge of Dentrix Application.Strong communication and interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, and coworkers.Demonstrated ability to lead a team and manage during times of high stress, assessing situations and reacting positively to them.Ability to restrain or assist in restraining uncooperative patients
