Summary of Duties & Responsibilities: The Registered Dental Hygienist must work together with the Doctor to ensure that our patients are receiving optimal comprehensive care. They provide dental hygiene assessments, create treatment plans based on the dentist’s diagnosis as well as provide overall health care education and instruction to patients. This includes not only performing healthy mouth prophylaxes, but also properly identifying evidence of gum disease and treating it appropriately. Duties: Responsible for providing routine hygiene care, which includes both preventive and periodontal treatments. This includes but is not limited: Identify and take necessary diagnostic radiographs Assess patients’ teeth, bone, and periodontal tissues indicating the presence of any abnormalities or suspected diseases or conditions. Create and present periodontal treatment plans based on dentist’s diagnosis. Identify any suspected lesions in the mouth or on the teeth and bring them to the attention of the doctor immediately. Thorough removal of soft and hard deposits and extrinsic stain from teeth, using hand instruments, ultrasonic cavitron inserts, and prophy handpieces. Educate our patients on the importance of proper oral hygiene, as necessary, as well as demonstration of proper oral hygiene; make recommendations as to appropriate products or devices for patients’ home care. Perform prophylaxis in the absence of periodontal disease or gingivitis. Perform full mouth debridement, either as a first stage gingivitis therapy or to remove interfering calculus to further enable a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Perform root planning as a periodontal therapy. Place locally-administered antibiotics as supportive periodontal therapy. Administer local anesthesia and topical agents as necessary for patient comfort. Implement irrigation and desensitizing procedures or products as adjunctive to periodontal therapy. Apply cavity-preventive agents, such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants. Proficient in taking intra oral photographs Make recommendations as to patients’ recare interval and follow-up needs. This position will be responsible for reviewing and updating our patient’s medical history, signing necessary consent forms, and recording the patient’s blood pressure prior to treatment. Cross trains to provide back-up support as needed within the front office section, as well as assisting the doctor when necessary. Identifies opportunities for process improvement and efficiency within the front office section. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Education and Experience Associates or Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene or certification for Dental Hygiene from an accredited college/technical school. Minimum of 1 year of Dental Hygiene experience Licenses and Certificates: An active and good standing Tennessee RDH license Active and current Basic Life Support (BLS) Active and current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification Local Anesthesia Laser Therapy Key Competencies: Present a responsive and polished professional manner Outstanding written and verbal communication skills A friendly, positive demeanor with patients and supported dental office team members Great organizational skills Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new programs Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of dentistry and dental procedures Exceptional customer service skills Ability to travel (less than 5% of schedule) for training, occasionally out of state Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, especially HIPPA compliance Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels and exercise good judgment Ability to self-motivate and work independently and as a creative member of the organization Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines, manage priorities and workflow Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel. Preferred Qualifications: +5 years of Professional Dental Hygiene experience Software experience with either - Dentrix, OpenDental, Eaglesoft Working knowledge of dental insurance policies and procedures Working Conditions: Must be available to work two nights a week until 6:00pm as well as 1 to 2 Saturdays a month until 3:00pm
