Operative Department Objective:
Responsible for providing operative treatment to patients.Responsible for ensuring that the operative schedule is completed in a manner that is productive and with top notch customer service. Responsible for overlooking operative team members to ensure that the work day is stress free and the schedule is accommodated to meet patient expectations.
Essential Job Functions:
Patient Orientation: Communicate clearly and professionally with patients from different social and economic levels. Develop strong rapport with patients face-to-face. Diffuse patient complaints and concerns quickly maintaining a positive and professional attitude. Identify negative statements from patients and reinforce positive patient relations through active professional communication
Set tone and personality for the entire office team maintain a positive, professional, and upbeat communications. Present a professional appearance/image through dress, language and actions in all instances maintaining self-control with patients as well as with team members.
Communicate clearly with all clinical and non-clinical team members. Follow all directions from dental associates. Manage conflicts with and between office team members. Identify charting, patient flow, and scheduling errors, working with all clinical staff as a team to reduce error occurrence
GENERAL DUTIES: Greet patients and provide patient tours for new patients. Review the daily schedule of operative patients. Carefully review patient health and dental history and update as necessary. Provide radiographs for patients as prescribed by the dentist. Apply cavity-preventative agents such as fluorides and sealants. Communicate with patients in an understandable and professional way. Check on patient comfort during treatment; help allay patient anxiety. Take accurate notes on the provided treatment. Ensure that all consents are signed for treatment schedule six-month recare appointments. Complete all charts that are incomplete at the end of the day. Also, provide team members with an orientation on how to properly complete charts. Answer any questions that the doctors, front desk or back staff have about charting. Creating and enforcing a fair set schedule for team members to be relieved of their duties when the schedule permits. Assist the doctor with extra curriculum activities such as phone calls, referrals, etc… to ensure the doctor can concentrate on patient care review the schedule to determine when treatment can be added to the schedule. Keep doctors informed when there is availability on the schedule to complete treatment. Assist with the front desk with parents with questions and problems. Communicate with the office manager if any miscommunications arise with parents, doctors or team members. Follow up any questions with the insurance department or front desk. Prepare for morning huddle. Monitoring N2O2 usage to prevent patients from being on N2O2 for a long period of time. Communicate with Doctor when schedule allows completing treatment on Complete exams, Limited exams, and Emergencies during appointment day. Also responsible to determine how much treatment can the schedule allowed to complete during the visit.
Operative Area and Sterilization:
Assist with beginning-of-the-day and end-of-the-day procedures for operative rooms; turning on/off equipment, disinfecting stations IAW OSHA Regulations Check to ensure operative rooms are ready, stocked and clean by the assistant Follow up with the assistant who is ordering on any materials neededEnsure proper handling of dirty instruments; properly discard all disposable items. Assist in sterilization area as needed Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Nitrous Oxide Certification Dental Assistant II Coronal Polishing thorough working knowledge of Dentrix Application
