CAN Community Health one of the nation’s largest providers of HIV Services has an exciting opportunity for a part-time dental hygienist (2 days per week, 18 hours) for our office in the Miami Gardens and Miami Beach, FL region. We are looking for someone who is passionate about serving the needs of individuals impacted by HIV and other infectious diseases. Statement of Purpose: This is a working level position working under the direction, applying discretion and latitude in performance of various tasks associated with dental hygiene in a clinical or public health setting. Incumbents must be licensed in the state of the clinical location. Primary Tasks: 1. Familiarly with CAN Community Health, Inc.’s program philosophies, goals and objectives. Be cognizant of and comply with all CAN’s policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations. 2. Apply dental hygiene techniques-including removal of calculus, plaque and accretions above and below the gingival margin. 3. Complete all required paperwork on time, for example: timesheets, encounter tickets, evaluations, progress notes, etc. 4. Understand the requirements of CAN’s Exposure Control Plan. Assure compliance with this plan by support staff assigned to assist you. Personally, utilize universal precautions when practicing in a clinical setting. 5. Participate in staff outreach and off-site health care programs requiring dental services as requested by the Dental Implementation Manager. Represent CAN in the community. 6. Complete all duties, responsibilities and competencies in a manner that is appropriate to the age groups to whom care/services are provided. 7. Provide necessary information and signatures for participation in reimbursement arrangements, such as Medicare, Medicaid and other plans. 8. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding and billing requirements. Provide accurate coding information on encounter tickets that corresponds to care given and documented in progress notes. 9. Report as needed to the Dental Implementation Manager any pertinent information or situations that impact on patient care or CAN’s liability. 10. Attend and participate I mandatory CAN meetings (center specific quarterly meetings, corporate meetings and other meetings as designated by the Clinical Director or CDO). Report dental issues at the dental meetings. 11. Review and update dental provider protocols and participate in Quality Assurance programs to minimize risk, in collaboration with the Dental Implementation Manager. 12. Participate in Peer Review activities as requested by the Dental Implementation Manager. 13. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other members of the dental team. Be supportive of coworkers. 14. Teach home care oral hygiene instructions and/or apply dental fluoride varnishes. 15. Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely, in writing, read and understand information presented in writing. 16. Perform all surgical procedures using sterile techniques and CDC guidelines. 17. Carry out any other activities deemed appropriate by the Director of Dental Services. 18. Promotes and practices CAN Community Health, Inc.’s mission and values, and follows its policies and procedures. Education/Professional: • Graduate of an accredited school of dental hygiene. • Licensed as a Dental Hygienist in the state of dental clinic location. • Principles, theories and practices of dentistry. • Principles, theories and practices of radiology. • Principles, theories and practices of dental hygiene. • Current valid BLSC Certification CAN Required Trainings: General Orientation HIV/AIDS Violence in the Workplace Sexual Harassment HIPAA Health Stream Courses (as assigned) Physical Demands: 1. Neat professional appearance 2. Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly in lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body when occasionally assisting and positioning patients, reposition equipment and lifting supplies. 3. Involves walking or standing for 80% of time or greater. Sitting the remaining periods of time. 4. Requires expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word, visual and auditory acuity. 5.
