Description

Talbot House Ministries was established to be a place of hope for people who had lost hope: the hungry, the homeless, and the poor. Planting the seeds of hope is something we do with everyone who comes through our doors. The Dentist will provide a range of services to our patients. The Dentist will meet with patients, assess their dental health, perform scheduled cleanings, handle complex procedures, such as root canals, extractions, and oral surgery, and work with other staff members, such as Dental Hygienists and Assistants, to provide our clients with quality dental services. The Dentist will also be able to assist in the management of the practice and promoting better oral hygiene. The Dentist must be caring, communicative, and experienced in diagnosing and treating dental ailments. It is also expected that the Dentist be skilled with the various tools and procedures needed to correct dental complaints and ensure the oral health of patients. This position is part of the Emergency Response Team and is expected to be available on-site during weather-related emergency situations (e.g., tropical storms, hurricanes). In the event of a weather-related emergency, you will report to the Director of Operations and/or Facilities Director for specific instructions. Special circumstances will need to be approved by your immediate supervisor. Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions: • Meeting with patients to discuss treatment options. • Performing dental procedures, as needed, such as extractions, root canals, and filling cavities. • Diagnoses ailments and abnormalities of gums, teeth and mouth and provides appropriate guidance for treatments and drug prescriptions as needed. • Giving clients sedatives or anesthesia prior to administering treatments as required. • Ordering diagnostic measures, such as x-rays. • Documents dental histories and charts after each visit including treatment plans discussed. • Managing and communicating with other staff members to provide care to patients. • Locates and repairs cavities, prepares and fits temporary dental crowns and performs appropriate procedures for molding, capping and recapping teeth. • Provides appropriate dental referrals for complex dental treatments as needed. • Providing clinical supervision for Dental Hygienist and Dental Assistant. • Perform other duties that may be assigned as needed, and in accordance with the direction of the Executive Director. Required Skills/Abilities: • Willingness to comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding dental and health care. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to keep detailed records. • Comprehensive knowledge of dental procedures, tools, and diagnostics. • Good management skills. • Ability to work in high-stress environment. • Excellent assessment skills and intervention strategies. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Must maintain confidential information appropriately. • Establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients. • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and general public. • Knowledge of community resources is essential. • Management and budget experience required. • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory benchmarks. • Hands-on experience with computer systems such as EagleSoft or Dentrix. • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. Education and Background: • Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine. • Florida state license and malpractice insurance. • Additional experience, certifications, or licensing may be required. • Experience with healthcare databases and applications. • Computer proficiency (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). • Experience working with indigent population preferred. • Must maintain licensure. • Must maintain current CPR certification. • Bilingual (Spanish) language skills preferred. All positions at Talbot House Ministries require mandatory ongoing training and every employee is required to be available for all scheduled trainings. In addition, employee attendance is required at all mandatory staff meetings.
