When you are the manager of a dental office, it is important to help children feel welcome and comfortable when they are scheduled for an appointment. Use these ideas to keep your younger dental patients happy during their dental visits.

Dress in Fun and Friendly Uniforms

Plain white uniforms can frighten a child who is visiting your dental office, but fortunately, it is possible to find fun garments that are designed for dental care workers. Children enjoy seeing cartoon characters or their favorite animals on a dentist’s uniform. By permitting your office and dental care team to wear colorful garments, you can make your dental office a welcoming place.

Complete the Paperwork before Children Arrive

To avoid a long waiting time at the dentist’s office, send all of the paperwork to a child’s parents in an email attachment. By having all of the paperwork in a patient’s file, a child can have an examination or procedure quickly without sitting in the waiting area while her parents find insurance cards and other information.

Focus on Providing Pediatric Dentistry Services

This one is a no-brainer for most dental offices. You can focus on providing pediatric dentistry services by having smaller examination chairs and dental care equipment. A child can feel more comfortable sitting in a small chair that helps the dentist to examine their teeth, and if you have small tools, then a child won’t feel as frightened during dental cleanings and other procedures. Make it easier for children to wait for an examination by having a child-friendly waiting area with toys, books and a television. You can show children informative DVDs that teach them how to brush and floss their teeth while they are waiting for a dental appointment.

Give Children Dental Care or Other Items during a Visit

Encourage a child to brush and floss her teeth after visiting the dentist by giving her a new toothbrush and flavored dental floss. You may also want to give your young dental patients a coloring book and crayons so that they can remember their fun visit to the dentist. It is important for everyone in the dental facility to take their time while caring for children by explaining everything first. Give a child a chance to look at the examination room’s equipment, and also, show a child her X-rays.
