Infection control has been under the spotlight over the last few years. With so many options for keeping ourselves and our patients safe, it is easy to become confused about best practices. This course will take our understanding of infection control back to the foundational level of the microbe and how it can wreak havoc in our dental world. The science of microbial lifecycle, replication and infection will be reviewed. Attendees will build a fundamental understanding of risk, as well as best practices and solutions to maintaining an ideal clinical environment.
Objectives:
Describe the lifecycle of microorganisms
Illustrate potential paths of infection and potential health risks
Examine key components of infection control in dental practice
Introduce the concept and define the role of an in-house Infection Control Officer
