Course Description:
Dental healthcare professionals must be aware of the many considerations that are part of selecting and using the proper surface disinfectant in the dental practice environment. The variety of different surfaces and equipment found in a dental treatment room creates
a challenge to manage the cleanliness and safety of those environmental surfaces. Risk of contamination with patients’ blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) can be caused by touch, spray, splash, and aerosols.
Course Objectives:
This session will outline strategies for a robust environmental hygiene program, including:Classification of disinfectants; identification of housekeeping and clinical contact surfacesSafe use and handling of chemical disinfectants, including proper surface pre-cleaning and disinfection protocolsCompliance with EPA-registered disinfectant products, including best practices for emerging viral pathogensFactors to consider when selecting an ideal disinfectantEnvironmental surface disinfection products and surface compatibility Appropriate protocol for use of impervious surface barriers
