*Job Overview*As a Dental Assistant, you will work alongside general dentists, specialists, and hygienists to provide care in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner. You are an extension of the providers, listening and looking for opportunities to serve your patients as if they were your family. Taking high quality xrays enables dentists to properly diagnose and treat conditions. Properly sterilizing and setting up rooms creates a safe environment for your patients and team members. Recording important notes such as vital statistics and treatment plans ensures that the team has a solid source to refer to when patients return. Handing instruments by anticipating the needs of your providers allows them to work efficiently which shortens appointment times, allowing patients to continue on with their day while maximizing their comfort.

- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling, root planing, and polishing

- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and provide personalized recommendations for at-home care

- Follow medical coding guidelines for accurate billing and insurance claims

Requirements:
- Valid state dental hygiene license
- Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program
- Proficiency in using dental software such as Dentrix or similar
- Strong knowledge of dental anatomy, oral health conditions, and treatment options

This role combines clinical expertise, operational leadership to create a sustainable and impactful mobile health program. This position ensures that the mission and goals of the organization are realized through the professional and effective delivery of mobile oral health services.
*Duties and Responsibilities *
*Administration Functions *
* Designs, develops, and implements appropriate Dental Department policies protocols and procedures which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards, state and federal requirements.
* Responsible for personal as well as Departmental full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, FQHC, and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality.
* Serves as a liaison between dental staff and administration.
* Reviews dental contracts for services provided to or by Wahiawa Health.
* Advises on schedules of fees (and related discounts for services to patients, as
* appropriate) to be charged for professional services rendered by Wahiawa Health dental providers.
* Participates, in conjunction with the management team, in the overall budget planning and monitoring process; reviews the formulation and evaluation of project goals and budgets.
*Management Functions *
* Assists in the preparation of the operating budget for the Dental Department and, in collaboration with the CFO and CEO, overseeing compliance with that budget.
* Participates in recruitment/retention activities for the dental program and center.
* Performs clinical supervision of dental staff, including regular performance appraisals and feedback to staff.
* Provides supervision of clinical scheduling, call, and leave for dental staff.
* Provides supervision of continuing professional education, in-service training, and orientation of new dental staff.
* Approves student affiliation agreements and student rotations: responsible for overall performance of dental students in the health center.
* Ensures integration of dental services into Wahiawa Health’s overall comprehensive services.
* ?Facilitates dental staff meetings.
* Reviews input from dental staff on their ideas and concerns with leadership.
*Clinical Functions: *
* Examines children and adolescents requesting care, diagnose their dental / oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental / oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
* Provides general dental treatment for patients including oral disease diagnosis and treatment in pediatric dentistry
* Records care provided in the patient’s dental record so the record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. Complete referrals, data collections instruments and other records or documents as required.
* Educates patients and the community in the nature of oral health related conditions and in general promotion of oral health related disease preventions.
* Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientations of community health center staff as requested.
* Completes dental charts after each visit according to the EHR protocols.
* Supervises, as needed, dental assistants and personnel in area of specific support services for patient care delivery.
*Performance Improvement Functions: *
Oversees the quality of dental care provided to meet the patient’s and center’s needs. Accountable for ensuring that the Mobile dental clinic meets all local, state, and FQHC quality and safety requirements.
* ?Demonstrates an understanding of Wahiawa Health’s mission in performing all aspects of the position.
* Demonstrates commitment to, and understanding of Wahiawa Health’s Service Excellence Standards, by modeling service excellence in all internal and external relationships, addressing service excellence deficits in staff, and in performance of all duties and responsibilities of this position.
* Demonstrates a caring and helpful attitude when interacting with patients, vendors, and fellow employees. Strives to build cooperative partnerships with internal and external customers.
* Assists in promoting a dental staff environment in which the dental providers retain independent judgment and responsibility in the practice of dentistry, subject to peer review by, and recommendations from Wahiawa Health’s Dental Director. Provides an environment in which the dental providers follow and abide by the ethics of the dental profession, all applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances, and any and all other policies adopted by Wahiawa Health.
* Handles confidential information as defined in Wahiawa Health policies.
* Participates in the preparation of grant applications as requested.
* ?Performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives as requested.
* Participates in other program activities as appropriate
*EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: *
* DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school and be licensed to practice in Hawaii.
* Current CPR (BLS) certifications.
* Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges required
* Medicare and Medicaid provider qualified.
* High level of comfort working within an integrated healthcare model on a multidisciplinary team of providers in mobile community health setting.
* Ability to exercise sound judgment in managing patient crises in a calm, consistent, and equitable manner.
*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS *
* Must have excellent interpersonal skills and empathy towards patients, as well as have excellent communication skills, critical thinking skills, the ability to handle stressful situations, the capacity to function independently, have varied clinical experience, and the ability to document meticulously.
* Must have excellent process improvement skills and able to understand clinic functions and department interactions.
* Knowledge of practice management components, particularly in cost constrained environments.
* Knowledge of regulatory compliance i.e., HIPPA, FQHC, OSHA, etc.
* Basic understanding of information technology and ability to organize, analyze and synthesize complex data from various sources.
* Able to adapt process improvement in accordance with organization objectives. Experience
* Willingness to work flexible hours in order to meet the organization’s needs/demands.
* Must be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services. Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
* Attention and Focus: The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted
