A Heartland Dental supported office is seeking a friendly Expanded Duties Dental Assistant (EFDA) to support the clinical treatment care of our patients. As an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA), you will play a large role in the provision of effective and trustworthy dental services. You will sustain patient comfort, soothe upset patients, listen to their needs and educate them on dental procedures. You will also manage clinical supplies, work efficiently to maintain the supported dentist’s schedule and adhere to all OSHA and company safety policies.

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for both team members and patients, a tuberculosis (TB) test is required for all new hires in dental office positions. This is a standard requirement for dental office roles and must be completed prior to starting employment. The test will be arranged during the pre-employment process, and any necessary guidance or paperwork will be provided. Not applicable in the state of FL & TN.
More About the Role:
As an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA), you must have a positive and outgoing personality, exceptional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills, excellent patient care skills and strong organizational skills.
As an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) at a Heartland Dental supported office, you will organize and maintain lab equipment, take and develop X-rays and provide comprehensive post-operative dental procedures to patients.
Additional responsibilities of the Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) include:
- Taking and recording medical and dental histories and patient vital signs
- Assisting the dentist in managing dental emergencies
- Improving your clinical skills and acumen through participation in continuing education and training opportunities offered by Heartland Dental
- Superior working knowledge of dental procedures and terminology
- Ability to build rapport with patients
- Good manual dexterity
- Computer proficiency and the ability to learn new programs
- Ability to travel at least once every other month for training, occasionally overnight
Required Qualifications:
- High School Graduate/GED
- New EFDA Graduate or Experience EFDA
- Expaned Function Dental Assistant (EDFA) Required
- X-Ray Certification
- Working knowledge of dental procedures and terminology
- Experience working in a fast-paced and customer-centric environment
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- The position will have access to minimum PHI necessary for performing job-related functions; regular HIPAA training, aligning with the specific role and responsibilities, will be required; and the individual will need to protect PHI and maintain data safeguards.
Preferred Experience:
- Dentrix or other dental software experience
EFDA experience with restorative and preventive procedures under direct dentist supervision:
- Place, carve, finish & polish amalgam and composite restorations
- Apply sealants and topical fluoride treatments
- Perform coronal polishing
- Place and remove rubber dams, matrix bands, wedges, bases, liners
- Take dental impressions for study models, diagnostic casts, athletic appliances
- Fabricate temporary crowns and bridges
- Implement Scheduling Structures: Develop a comprehensive scheduling structure that recognizes the contributions of EFDAs, promoting procedure timing, likes/dislikes of providers, recognizing strengths & weaknesses for the daily office workflow, ensuring a seamless productive day that keeps the team morale up.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties of the position
- Prolonged periods sitting and standing
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds at times
- Availability to attend virtual training sessions (or in-person) periodically throughout the year
