About Magnolia Dental Magnolia Dental is a family-owned dental practice in East Portland. We pride ourselves on delivering excellent patient care and ensuring a positive experience for both our patients and staff. We are seeking a Dental Assistant who will support Dr. Mike Naughton and our hygienists in delivering high-quality oral health care to our patients. This role is responsible for preparing treatment rooms, assisting during dental procedures, ensuring patient comfort, maintaining sterilization and infection control standards, and performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks to support smooth office operations. Responsibilities: Clinical Support: - Prepare treatment rooms with the necessary instruments, materials, and equipment. - Assist Dr. Naughton chairside during examinations and procedures (e.g., passing instruments, suctioning, and preparing materials). - Support procedures such as impressions, temporary crowns, suture removal, fluoride treatments, and sealants. - Take, process, and mount dental radiographs (x-rays) in compliance with state regulations. - Clean, sterilize, and organize instruments, trays, and treatment areas. - Monitor equipment to ensure it is clean, functional, and well maintained; report any issues to Dr. Naughton. - In office presence required Monday–Wednesday, 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM. Patient Care & Communication: - Greet and prepare patients for procedures, collecting and updating medical history and vital signs as appropriate. - Provide patients with post-operative instructions and ensure understanding of treatment plans. - Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques and preventive care when directed by the dentist or hygienist. - Demonstrate empathy and professionalism in all patient interactions, supporting a positive patient experience. Administrative Duties: - Maintain accurate patient records, charts, and treatment notes in compliance with HIPAA and practice policies. - Monitor supply inventory and place orders as approved. - Provide occasional front office support, as needed. - Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for patients and staff. Qualifications: 1. Prior dental assistant experience preferred; on-the-job training available. 2. Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and instruments. 3. Familiarity with implants and periodontal maintenance therapy. 4. X-ray certification required. 5. Proficiency with dental software systems a plus, specifically Dentrix. 6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 7. Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced environment. 8. Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to cleanliness and infection control. 9. Team-oriented, professional, and compassionate demeanor. 10. Completion of an accredited dental assisting program strongly preferred. 11. Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification in Oregon preferred.
