About Us Wheaton Oral Surgery (Dr. Michael Scherer, DDS, MD) is a patient-centered oral surgery practice dedicated to providing high-quality surgical care in a professional, compassionate environment. We are seeking a motivated and reliable Oral Surgery Dental Assistant to join our clinical team. Responsibilities Assist the oral surgeon during surgical procedures, including extractions, implants, and other oral surgery treatments Prepares and maintains treatment rooms and equipment including cleaning and sterilizing instruments, setting up trays, and cleaning treatment rooms Take and process digital X-rays and CBCT scans Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures Set up and break down operatories according to OSHA and infection control standards Maintain accurate patient records and clinical notes Ensure a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment Help to monitor surgical supplies and medication and replenish, as needed Educate patients on post-operative care and instructions Qualifications Oral surgery experience preferred (will train the right candidate) Strong knowledge of infection control and OSHA guidelines Ability to communicate and interact effectively with the doctor, co-workers, and patient CPR/BLS certification (required or willingness to obtain) Excellent communication and patient care skills Interact with patients to explain procedures, pre- and postoperative instructions, treatment plans, etc. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced surgical environment Required to be DAANCE Certified within two years of employment (if not already) Schedule & Compensation Schedule: Office Hours: Monday 9-5, Tuesday 9-4, Wednesday 9-7, Thurs. 9-5, Friday 8-3 - No Weekends Depending on the surgery schedule, not every Tuesday will be needed to work. Surgical assistants typically arrive 1 hour before patients. During busy season (summer months and holidays), we open as early as 7:30. Please do not apply if you are unable to work office hours.
