Periodontal Dental Assistant Job Summary: The Periodontal Dental Assistant supports the periodontist in providing specialized dental care related to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal (gum) disease and the placement of dental implants. This role involves assisting during surgical procedures, preparing treatment rooms, educating patients, and ensuring a safe and efficient clinical environment. Key Responsibilities: Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, and materials for periodontal procedures. Assist the periodontist during surgical and non-surgical periodontal treatments. Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) as permitted by state regulations. Monitor patient comfort and provide chairside assistance during procedures. Sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment according to infection-control standards. Record patient medical histories, treatment notes, and clinical findings. Provide patients with pre-operative and post-operative instructions. Schedule appointments and coordinate patient care. Maintain inventory of dental supplies and order materials as needed. Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and office safety protocols. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a dental assisting program preferred. Current Dental Assistant certification/licensure as required by state law. Radiology certification preferred. CPR certification. Experience in periodontics, oral surgery, or dental assisting preferred. Required Skills: Knowledge of periodontal and implant procedures. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical setting. Attention to detail and organizational skills. Proficiency in dental software and electronic patient records.
