Dental Assistant Job Summary This position involves supporting the dentist during a variety of procedures, ensuring a clean and safe environment, and providing patients with a comfortable experience. The role also includes performing some administrative tasks and managing supplies. Key Responsibilities • Chairside Assistance: Provide hands-on assistance to the dentist during examinations and procedures by preparing and handing instruments and materials. • Patient Care: Escort patients to treatment rooms, ensure their comfort, obtain and review health changes, anticipate dentist’s needs, ensure all patients are always attended, and provide instructions on post-operative care. Also, ensure proper treatment notes are recorded in patient’s chart. Monitor patient flow and communicate with front desk for any additional required treatment. • Sterilization & Equipment: Sterilize instruments and equipment according to regulations and maintain clean, well-stocked treatment rooms. • Radiography: Take dental radiographs (X-rays) under the dentist's direction, adhering to safety protocols. • Record Keeping: Accurately maintain patient records, documenting medical history, treatment details, and other essential information. • Lab Tasks: Perform various lab duties as assigned by the dentist, such as preparing materials for impressions, taking impressions when required, making night guards/bleach trays as requested, and maintaining upkeep of impression trays. Maintain dental office emergency kits as needed. • Supply Management: Monitor inventory, restock treatment areas daily, and possibly order new supplies and equipment as needed. • Administrative Duties: Handle tasks like scheduling appointments prior to patient leaving procedure room, managing patient files, answering phones when needed. Required Skills & Qualifications • Clinical Skills: Knowledge of dental instruments, sterilization methods, and basic oral hygiene practices. • Technical Skills: Proficiency in taking dental X-rays and maintaining patient records. Efficient instrument hand-over with dentist. • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with patients and the dental team. Be an active participant in team meetings. Promote team concepts by interacting with others in the office. • Organization: Strong organizational skills to manage supplies, maintain cleanliness, and handle all tasks efficiently. • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail for accurate record-keeping and precise execution of tasks. • Reliability: A dependable and trustworthy professional with a positive attitude. • Compliance: Understanding of health and safety regulations, including OSHA and HIPAA, and the ability to follow them. Personnel Requirements Education/Experience • High school diploma or equivalent • Graduate of accredited dental assisting program or dental assisting experience preferred • Compliance with state dental practice requirements • Computer skills (Dentrix, SolutionReach, Outlook, MS Office) • Commitment to CE for career development. Interpersonal • Good interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, other staff members and community. • Effective verbal skills to communicate with staff and patients.
