Role Summary

The surgical dental assistant will assist and work alongside our oral surgeons, helping them prepare patients for procedures, and ensuring the surgical area is organized and ready for the oral surgeon. Duties/Responsibilities
. Perform administrative tasks such as using computer to update patient information, medical history, drug allergies, record vitals and charting.
. Maintain a flow of communication with front staff in order to enhance patient experience.
. Prepare examination rooms for appointments by ensuring all necessary equipment is ready for the surgeon including: restocking with pre-op/post-op instructions, gloves, and proper instruments, cleaning keyboards, desk tops and handles.
. Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures.
. Assist the surgeon with all chairside procedures including operatory setup, anesthesia administration, monitoring O2 levels and cleanup.
. Patient dismissal and providing information on oral health care by answering postoperative (PO) calls or questions regarding surgery.
. Knowledge of operating procedures of x-rays, CBCT machine, autoclave and ultrasonic.
. Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments for autoclave and preparing materials/equipment in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
. Maintain OSHA, HIPAA, CDC and COFS COVID protocols.
. Perform other related duties including but not limited to: cleaning suctions and traps daily, washing and folding surgical gowns, maintaining drug logs (biopsy, implant, and autoclave), implant case and supply review, restocking surgery rooms.
Skills/Abilities
. At least six months of dental assisting experience (preferred)
. Sound knowledge of operating procedures of x-rays, CBCT machines, autoclave, and ultrasonic
. Good understanding of surgical techniques, chairside responsibilities, and health and safety protocols
. Excellent understanding of dental records, charts, and documentation.
. Great organizational and time management skills.
. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
. Providing excellent patient care at all times.
Education and Experience
. Active RDA license
. Current BLS/CPR certification
. High school diploma or equivalent.
. Minimum 1 year related experience required.
Physical Requirements
. Able to stand/walk for 8 hours a day.
. Able to lift up to 50lbs pounds at times.
. Able to work on keyboard 3 hours a day.
*Experience assisting with oral surgery preferred.
*Fluent in English and Spanish preferred.
