The Dental Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of duties while promoting a safe and clean environment for quality dental care under the direction of the Dental Director. Primarily the Dental Assistant will be responsible for documenting all of the patients’ medical history, obtaining vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting with dental procedures, oral hygiene, restorative procedures, radiology exams, patient education of oral care, equipment maintenance, supply inventory, sanitize/disinfects instruments and packages instruments in accordance with Standard Universal Precautions and Board Regulations. QUALIFICATIONS: • Graduate from an Accredited School of Dental Assisting. • Bilingual- English/Spanish is required. • Must be a Registered Dental Assistant with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (SBDE). • Two years of dental assisting experience and must be comfortable with all ages of patients. • Able to work a flexible schedule. • Knowledge and Practice of Patient Triage Procedures, ability to read and interpret documents, such as policies, procedure manuals, and reports • Must have a current CPR Certification. • Current Nitrous Oxide Certification a plus. • Computer and data entry proficient with previous Dental Software experience in Open Dental, E-Clinical Works, Dexis and ScanX. • Professional and Positive attitude with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management, staff and more importantly with our patients. • High School Diploma or GED. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Prepare patients for encounter with Dentist, sterilize and disinfect dental instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, and assist Dentist during dental procedures. 2. Provides patient education or counseling in a clear manner at appropriate level in regarding to preventative dental care, nutrition and reviews patient documentation prior to patient departure. 3. Monitor patient appointments and may coordinate routine office activities. 4. Maintains supplies in each patient room and alerts Clinical Lead of supply shortage. 5. Performs General Administrative Duties such as: Addresses telephone encounters, organizes patient handouts and accurate clinical documentation. 6. Take and process dental x-rays. 7. Assist the Dentist at chair-side with the delivery of instruments and preparation of dental material. 8. Provide postoperative instructions prescribed by Dentist. 9. Obtain and record medical and dental histories and along with patient vital signs. 10. Clean and polish removable appliances, maintains cleanliness in patient rooms and clinical work areas.
