This role is responsible for providing clerical support to the faculty, students and staff in the Graduate Program in Periodontics. In addition, this individual is a main point of contact for patients by answering phones and questions, scheduling appointments, and ensuring patient confidentiality. Duties and Responsibilities: • Be responsive to patients, doctors, faculty and students; schedule patient appointments, resident rotations and special events; answer phones, process correspondence. • Answer clinic phone lines and screen and direct telephone calls. Respond to all messages through e-mail, phone and/or mail. • Draft routine correspondence, letters, reports and schedules. • Maintain clinic schedule and patient appointments in axiUm, schedule guest lecturers, and other presentations. • Maintain active and retention patient lists for faculty and residents. • Handle confidential information in a professional manner. • Follow HIPAA regulations regarding patient information. • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • High school education • Two years of relevant experience in one of the following: Dental office work, including receptionist duties, dental insurance processing, or other healthcare experience deemed appropriate by the Director. • Must possess excellent oral/written communication skills, courteous demeanor, attention to detail, flexibility, ability to work and communicate with people from a diverse population and the ability to work independently with little supervision and constant interruptions in an environment that can be stressful at times. • Ability to access/retrieve and transport patient records throughout the clinic is required. • Proficiency in other languages may be required. • This is a computer workstation job with normal office related physical demands, including constant use of the telephone. • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, reach, grasp for objects and fine manipulation. • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20-30 pounds. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Familiarity with surgical codes and medical codes used in dental surgery.
