Overview Dental Wellness Center of Birmingham is seeking an experienced Dental Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis (6–8 weeks) to support our office during a maternity leave, with the potential to transition into a full-time position for the right candidate. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in dental assisting, including familiarity with various dental procedures, patient care, and dental office systems. The position requires a professional with comprehensive knowledge of dental terminology, medical documentation, and clinical techniques, particularly in pediatric and general dentistry settings. Responsibilities Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and pediatric treatments Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies, maintaining aseptic techniques and infection control standards Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging systems such as 3D scanners and other medical imaging tools Manage patient records accurately within EMR systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations Perform chairside assisting including four-handed dentistry techniques and vital signs monitoring Educate patients on treatment plans, post-operative care, and oral health maintenance Maintain clinical cleanliness and sterilization of instruments following infection control protocols Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing medical documentation as needed Assist with medical coding and documentation for insurance purposes and record keeping in compliance with healthcare standards Qualifications Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a clinical setting, preferably with pediatric dentistry exposure Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic; familiarity with medical records management is a plus Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely and effectively; experience with 3D scanners is advantageous Strong understanding of general dentistry procedures including endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatrics Excellent communication skills to educate patients and collaborate effectively within the dental team Certification in dental assisting preferred; additional training in medical coding or pediatrics is beneficial Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail Dental Wellness Center of Birmingham is seeking an experienced Dental Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis (6–8 weeks) to support our office during a maternity leave, with the potential to transition into a full-time position for the right candidate.
